John Magee(1884-1956) was born in Pittsburgh,USA.From 1912 to 1940,he worked as a missionary in China.During the period of the Japanese invasion,he was chairman of the International Red Cross Committee of Nanjing and council members of both the International Committee for Nanjing Safety Zone and the International Relief for Nanjing.In the period of the Nanjing Massacre,Rev.John Magee,risking his life,used a 16-mm movie camera,and recorded on-the-spot terrifying scenes,sometimes right after the barbarous Japanese soldiers finished killing.He also kept records of how the survivors were treated in Gulou(Drum Tower) Hospital.His films have helped preserve the testimony of historical facts for the world.The following photographs as well as their captions are all from Rev.John Magee himself.
