Nanjing had a long history of over 2000 years.It had been the captial of China in different periods,gaining the reputation of "The Ancient Capital of Six Dynasties".

As a tributary of the Yangtze River,Qinhuai River is the cradle of the old civilization of Nanjing.Since the 3rd century the area around has been a center for business and for leisure,attracting people of different social status --- wealthy business people,offcials and scholars.With splendid pavilions and towers,elegant architecture,beautiful boats rowing in the river through arch bridges,the area presented picturesque scenes to pleasure seekers.There used to be many singsong houses and legendary stories about the area.

The Nanjing city walls were built in late 14th century.They are 14-21 meters in height,7.6 meters thick,have 13 city gates and stretch 33,676 meters.They look magnificent and grand.They have existed for over 600 years.

The Confucius Temple is located on the northern bank of Qinhuai River.It used to be a place where scholars and people of literature met and also the site for holding the imperial examinations to select officials in ancient times.
